General Information

Inverclyde Royal Hospital covers an extensive geographical area accross Inverclyde including the Isle of Bute and Cowal Peninsula.

​

It provides many facilities including an A&E, General Medical and Surgical Inpatient beds, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology and Psychiatry. There is also a High Dependency Unit, Coronary Care Unit, a Unique Combined Critical Care Unit and Geriatric Medicine.

Catering

Catering is provided through the week from WRVS shop, The League of Friends Cafe, and Hospital Canteen. However, Gourock main street is a 5 minute drive, with restaurants and amenities.

​

Orthopaedic Department

The trauma departments in Clyde sector have now merged, with trauma being received at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

 

The elective ward (K North) at IRH provides the base for the Orthopaedic Department. There are both inpatient elective theatre sessions and a dedicated day surgery unit.

​

On call commitment is at the RAH for trainees.

Travel Information

Inverclyde Royal Hospital is in Greenock, 27 miles from Glasgow city centre.

 

Car - From the end of the M8 it is a 10 mile journey through Port Glasgow and the centre of Greenock along the A8 and A78 to get to the hospital. Expect around an hours drive from Glasgow with significant delays during peak times.

 

Train / Bus - There are 2 train stations near by; Branchton and Greenock West. Trains to Greenock West are 4 an hour followed by a 40-50 min walk through town to then get to the hospital. Branchton station is only a 10 min walk from the hospital however there is only 1 train an hour. There are buses which run from Greenock West station direct to the hospital or to nearby Branchton station.
